SUMMARY:Summer Showstoppers: The Enchanted Mermaid
DESCRIPTION:This series presents dazzling shows that the whole family will enjoy. \nThe Enchanted Mermaid is a show using very large puppets\, in the style of Bunraku with a story for older children. Once upon a time\, our hero John Cobbler stumbled upon a hidden castle. A beautiful maiden has been transformed into a mermaid! Can John use his wits to free the mermaid and escape from the wicked Lord Fish? Based upon the Walter de La Mare short story “Lord Fish” written in 1927. This show features elegantly crafted Bunraku-style puppets with elaborately built miniature castle and interior sets. Rhythms ‘Round the World is a musical tribute to the European and African traditions that form Virginia’s cultural foundation and includes an interactive rhythm jam with over 200 world percussion instruments. The Carys play multiple stringed\, wind and percussion instruments. ! Musical performances will sweeten your day and help you squeeze in some family time this summer. Bring a blanket\, chairs and your best dance moves. \nWater and lemonade will be provided; bring a reusable cup/water bottle. Music will begin at 10:30am with activities provided afterwards. SUMMARY:Planetarium Program: The Story of Tanabata(七夕)
DESCRIPTION:Colorful Tanabata festivals are held across Japan in early July and August. Among the biggest ones are the Tanabata festivals of Sendai in August and Hiratsuka near Tokyo in July.  Tanabata (七夕)\, also known as the “star festival”\, takes place on the 7th day of the 7th month of the year\, when\, according to a Chinese legend\, the two stars Altair and Vega\, which are usually separated from each other by the Milky Way\, are able to meet. \nStep inside our inflatable dome for this interactive and unique planetarium program. Suitable for ages 4+. SUMMARY:Call For Entry: Once Upon a Time
DESCRIPTION:(Ages 18+) Artists in all mediums are invited to enter this exhibit related to time.  We will have 24 clocks available to give out to artists to redesign into artwork; first come\, first served.  Remaining entries can be any artwork that includes a clock or depicts the passing of time.  Sunrises\, sunsets\, a race against time\, a clock shop\, a garden sundial — we are looking forward to your interpretation of this theme.  Those artists choosing to pick up a clock will receive the parameters at that time.  This exhibit is sponsored by the Friends of Franklin Park Arts Center and will award cash prizes.  Entry fee is $20/artist for up to 3 piece of artwork (pay at drop off) \nClock pick up:           beginning June 8 \nArtwork drop-off:   Sunday\, August 2  12:00 – 4:00pm  and Monday\, August 3\, 9:00am – 5:00pm \nArtwork pick-up:     Tuesday\, September 8\, 9:00am – 5:00pm \n  \nClick here for entry form\n
