DESCRIPTION:(Ages 18+)  Artists in all mediums are invited to enter artwork that explores\, depicts or celebrates the theme of Pursuit of Happiness.  There is joy and happiness in creating your work and as inspiration for the pieces you create. Show us what this pursuit means to you and how it brings you happiness or how you see happiness in others who are pursuing their passions. A pathway through the woods\, bags packed for vacation\, fisherman on the docks\, a bee searching a flower – we are interested in the search\, the pursuit.  Online entry form is preferred; payment can be made when dropping off artwork by cash\, credit card or check (payable to County of Loudoun). DESCRIPTION:(Ages 21-100)  Artists can further develop their skills in sketching the human form. With some guidance from instructor and professional artist Carmen Barros Howell\, participants will sketch from both short and long poses. Bring your own supplies; a limited number of easels will be provided and tables/chairs will be set up for those not able to use an easel. Class is limited to 9 students. SUMMARY:Summer Showstoppers: The Enchanted Mermaid
DESCRIPTION:This series presents dazzling shows that the whole family will enjoy. \nThe Enchanted Mermaid is a show using very large puppets\, in the style of Bunraku with a story for older children. Once upon a time\, our hero John Cobbler stumbled upon a hidden castle. A beautiful maiden has been transformed into a mermaid! Can John use his wits to free the mermaid and escape from the wicked Lord Fish? Based upon the Walter de La Mare short story “Lord Fish” written in 1927. This show features elegantly crafted Bunraku-style puppets with elaborately built miniature castle and interior sets. SUMMARY:Planetarium Program: The Story of Tanabata(七夕)
DESCRIPTION:Colorful Tanabata festivals are held across Japan in early July and August. Among the biggest ones are the Tanabata festivals of Sendai in August and Hiratsuka near Tokyo in July.  Tanabata (七夕)\, also known as the “star festival”\, takes place on the 7th day of the 7th month of the year\, when\, according to a Chinese legend\, the two stars Altair and Vega\, which are usually separated from each other by the Milky Way\, are able to meet. \nStep inside our inflatable dome for this interactive and unique planetarium program. Suitable for ages 4+. DESCRIPTION:(Ages 8+) You are invited to immerse yourself in a traditional tea ceremony to celebrate the Japanese Festival of Tanabata.
