Center Pieces

The Friends of Franklin Park Art Center announce the opening of Center Pieces, the Second Annual Mid-winter Art Show and Sale sponsored by Friends of Franklin Park Arts Center.

Center Pieces features creative works by regional artists and fine craftspeople in a variety of media. Encouraged to draw upon their own personal interpretation of “center pieces,” artists have produced works ranging from sculptural pieces for the table, art jewelry as the focal point of apparel, to works that explore and evoke the concept of physical or spiritual centering and features at the center of a community.

The Friends of Franklin Park Arts Center Mission: “Promote, support, and augment the Franklin Park Arts Center mission to present quality performing, visual and educational arts programming in an accessible, affordable manner to cultivate individual creativity and enhance the quality of life in Loudoun County.”

Center Pieces will be on display in the Gallery at Franklin Park Arts Center from January 7-30, 2011, Monday-Friday 9:00-5:00 and during evening and weekend performances. Throughout the exhibition period viewers are invited to vote for and comment on their favorite pieces. Voters will be entered in a drawing to win a pair of tickets to a spring performance. At the close of the exhibit, Viewer’s Choice ribbons will be presented to winning artists.

The public is invited to attend a reception for the artists from 3:00-5:00 pm on January 9, 2011, at Franklin Park Arts Center. The exhibit and reception are free to the public.

Awards and Judging:

• Viewer’s Choice ribbons will be presented to artists of the three pieces given the most votes by viewers during the course of the exhibition. Winners will be photographed with their artwork and announced in the media and on the Friends of Franklin Park Arts Center website.

Interactive Portion:

• In an interactive portion of the exhibit, viewers will be invited to vote for their favorite piece and comment on works in the show. These will be included in an interactive “center piece” to the exhibit.
